Water Parsnip (Sium suave)

$6.00Price
  • I'm a native of New York state and Tompkins County.

I'm a water loving plant that is a relative of the carrot.

I'm edible, but because of the similar looking toxic species such as the non-native and deadly, Poison Hemlock (Conium maculatum) and another non-native wild parsnip (Pastinaca sativa) which causes skin rashes, burns and blisters, please be safe and don't eat me. But please plant me as I am a beautiful native and an important member of our local ecosytems.

I work well in rain gardens.

I attract pollinators and am the larval host for the black swallowtail butterfly.
