I am native to New York State.
I spread by rhizomes and can make a nice ground cover. However, I don't like to be crowded by taller plants. I'm perfect for a hot, dry rock garden setting with less competition.
My flowers are lovely in the spring, but my seed heads are arguably more interesting. My seed heads form feathery gray tails, which can resemble a feather duster.
My leaves are fern like and can persist into the winter.
