Sweet Flag (Acorus americanus)
I'm a native of New York state.
My natural habitat is marshes, and along quiet water..
I like my feet wet. If you have a rain garden or wet spot I'd do well there.
I like to form colonies and act as very good erosion control when established.
I'm called "sweet" because of he cinnamon-like scent that you smell when my leaves are broken.
Muskrats eat my roots; they must like the spicy scent.
* Native Americans used my roots medicinally for treating nausea, colds and heartburn, and often traveled with my roots to use when trading.
