Swamp Sunflower (Helianthus augustifolius)
I’m a native of New York state, and threatened in our state
I’m a late blooming sunflower with lovely dark green leaves and beautiful yellow blooms.
I like sunny and wet habitat.
I attract bees, butterflies and other pollinators, Butterflies like to lay eggs on my leaves, which offers a food source for many bird species.
There are at least six species of specialist bees that only pollinate Helianthus spp of which I am one.
Unlike other Helianthus, I don’t spread aggressively, but prefer to grow in clumps.
