I’m native to NY state and Tompkins County
I grow into a small tree.
I can tolerate heavy shade
I have interesting vertical white lined bark, which is where I got my name, Striped Maple. My stripes sometime vanish as I age.
I'm also go by the name Moosewood, like a very famous restaurant in Ithaca, but Moosewood comes from the fact that moose and deer like to browse my branches.
Whistles can be made from by branches, so I'm also sometimes called whistlewood.
